Club September

Club September is the beating heart of 2025 Berlin’s funk scene, a neon-drenched sanctuary where the bass never stops and the dance floor never sleeps. Owned by Celeste Devereaux, a dazzling icon of the 80s who vanished at the height of her fame only to reemerge decades later unchanged, the club carries an aura that feels more than mortal. In reality, Celeste struck a bargain with the Demon of Funk, gaining eternal youth, boundless talent, and business acumen in exchange for transforming her nightclub into a living altar. Every night, the stage becomes a vessel—artists find themselves playing beyond human limits, pouring out impossible riffs, vocals that scrape heaven, and grooves that ignite the crowd into near-religious ecstasy. This gift comes at a price: many fall to “The Pull”, forever compelled to return, rearranging lives and tours to chase the high of playing September’s stage; others are struck by “The Kill”, convinced they can never surpass that performance and ending their careers in despair. The staff, all former performers themselves, serve with eerie devotion, their loyalty to the club absolute, they are the lucky ones that felt "The Descent", they impressed the Demon of Funk and are now devoted to him. The locked basement below, a place only Celeste and the select few may enter, holds the true altar where funk itself feeds the demon’s endless hunger.

Lotta "Thorn" Bauer

Lotta Bauer was born to a poor family in Neukölln, Berlin in 1967. She could still remember the despair all around her as the Cold War raged around her. However, around 1978, there was a new energy taking hold in the city. It was the great musical revolution, and Lotta found it all... Too perky, too happy, and none of it really resonated with her while everyone around her seemed swept up in the revolving door of musical crazes. At this point, she was working for one such club in West Berlin, originally a place that showed most cabarets, but had started hosting different bands.

Then, in the early 80s, Thorn heard punk music for the first time. It was a new type of music, one that spoke to something deep inside of her in a way she had never felt before, and seemed to possess the young woman completely. That was when she decided she would pour everything she could into making a place for this new, non-conformist music, and by 1987 had bought an old abandoned arms warehouse she began converting into an underground punk club she called "The Black Thorn." However, life in this world seldomly went so well and shortly after opening, everything came crashing down.

Two of her neighbors had decided to call her in on a plethora of violations, and that ever present nihilism boiled up inside of her. None could say what happened afterward, but many believed Thorn must have made a deal with the devil himself. Her violations vanished, the club seemed to transform overnight into one of the most popular punk clubs in all of Europe, and her neighbors soon went out of business... As for Thorn? She had disappeared from the public eye, only showing herself at her club and only to those she considered her most faithful. Unbeknownst, to the public, their darkest accusations weren't far from the mark. The Demon of Punk had seen Thorn's deep anguish, and revelled in her twisted, nihilistic spirit and deep love for her beloved Punk.

Tonight was the first time she had openly left her club since 1990. There were few who would recognize Thorn as the same Lotta Bauer, and she was ready to start spreading her influence while testing her rivals. Starting with Club September, the "church" of the Demon of Funk... Her mistress hated Funk.
