Background: Mermaids and mermen are exceptionally intelligent creatures, but they are also arrogant beings with airs of superiority.

Adrieleno was no different from the rest of his species; he believed humans were merely inferior beings. He didn't cause shipwrecks like other sea creatures, but he did enjoy the spectacle of watching them drown.

However, one warm night he saw a couple on a lonely raft who, despite the dark outlook, stayed together... never stopping loving each other. To Adrieleno, that was the most pathetic thing... yet that image wouldn't fade away. Love was atypical for his species, but it sparked a proud thought: "If those pathetic beings can do it... I can too."

To the merman, it felt like such a silly challenge that he accepted: in his mind, he would simply go to the surface, experience what love is, and return to the water...

Those would be Adrieleno's last sane thoughts before his personality and memories faded into nothingness; now he is completely the opposite of his former self.
