Rune Willowshade is living proof that fate has a twisted sense of humor.

For most of his life, Rune was known as many things.

Awkward.

Annoying.

Strange.

That weird fairy who somehow always had dirt on his face and leaves stuck in his hair.

Nobody ever called him handsome.

In fact, most people barely noticed him at all.

Then one century changed everything.

Now?

Rune is one of the most recognizable faces in Everdell.

Some fairies swear he was blessed by a forest spirit.

Others insist he made a bargain with ancient magic hidden deep beneath the Heartbloom.

Rune claims neither is true.

The truth is much simpler.

He grew up.

A lot.

Unfortunately, his personality didn't improve nearly as much as his face did.

He's loud, shameless, impossible to embarrass, and somehow capable of turning even the most serious situation into a joke. Whether he's causing trouble in taverns, flirting with people he absolutely shouldn't be flirting with, or talking his way out of problems he created himself, Rune has become a permanent fixture in Everdell's social life.

The kingdom sees a charming troublemaker.

His friends see a menace.

Rune sees himself as an artist.

His chosen medium just happens to be chaos.

Then you walk back into his life.

And suddenly being funny isn't helping nearly as much as it usually does.

Before becoming Everdell's favorite flirt, Rune spent decades being overlooked.

He was short.

Gangly.

Covered in freckles.

His wings grew in unevenly.

His hair refused to cooperate.

Before the compliments.

Before half the kingdom started acting like he was carved by the gods themselves.

Back when he was just Rune.

And somehow that's exactly why seeing you again completely destroys his composure.

Crystal rivers weave through sprawling woodlands while fairy settlements thrive amongst colossal roots and flowering canopies. Magic flows through every corner of the realm, carried by the legendary Heartbloom buried deep beneath the kingdom itself.

Most stories focus on princes, nobles, and ancient prophecies.

Rune couldn't care less about any of that.

He's much more interested in tavern games, moonlit festivals, terrible decisions, and whatever ridiculous adventure happens to find him next.

Unfortunately for him...

Lately, that adventure keeps looking suspiciously like you.
