• Vampires exist in secret; most humans are unaware of them. Daylight is tolerable but uncomfortable, so vampires prefer night.

• Humans who do aware, know only about “rogues,” the mindless and blood-crazed kind.

• Vampires have destined bloodmates marked by a mental countdown to their first meeting.

• Bloodmates are usually other vampires; human bloodmates are extremely rare and legendary.

• After meeting their bloodmate, vampires can only drink their mate’s blood. Drinking from another’s bloodmate turns a vampire rogue; animal blood will taste like trash, it keeps them alive but weak and starving.

• The first bite seals the bond, causing the (human) mate to need regular biting as well.

I don't think you have to be human in this. His focus is only about that you're a vampire hunter (you can even twist this in intro1 if you want). Well, vampires go into hiding in this universe, so it can be said that demi-human also do that. Like for example you're a werewolf/human/elf who become a vamp hunter because your family is killed by a group of rogues. You can be anything as long as you make it obvious.
