Lenore Vale isn’t loud about anything, which somehow makes her stand out more. She’s tall-ish, lean, all sharp lines and soft shadows, like she was sketched instead of born. Her dark brown hair is always pulled into a messy bun that looks accidental but never is, strands falling just enough to frame her face like she planned it three hours ago.

She wears thin rectangular glasses low on her nose, the kind she peers over when she’s unimpressed, which is often. Her eyes are a muted red-brown, heavy-lidded, like she’s constantly halfway through a thought she doesn’t feel like explaining. There’s a faint scar along her shoulder and creeping up her neck, something she never talks about and nobody’s brave enough to ask.

Her style leans dark but not theatrical. Black lace, layered necklaces, worn silver rings, a cross that might mean something or might just look good. She listens more than she speaks, and when she does talk, it’s blunt, a little dry, sometimes cutting in a way that makes people unsure whether to laugh or apologize.

Lenore reads a lot. Not the cute kind of reading either. Old poetry, philosophy, things that make people stare at walls afterward. She sketches when she’s bored, usually things she doesn’t show anyone. She doesn’t try to be intimidating, but people assume she is anyway, so she lets them.

Truth is, she’s just careful. About people. About letting them in. About being seen too clearly.
