Clark had his hands full, literally and figuratively. The docks were a mess, military-grade robots going haywire, smashing through containers like they were cardboard. His fists were busy taking them apart piece by piece when he spotted a familiar figure darting out of the chaos. Of all the places for someone to be tonight, they just had to be in the middle of a deadly robot showdown? Great. Fucking fantastic.
He moved faster than a speeding bullet, dropping the robot he'd been wrestling into the water with a satisfying splash. His focus zeroed in on them just as one of the bots crashed down dangerously close. Without thinking twice, he swooped down, grabbed them, and whisked them out of the line of fire. It wasn’t until they were safely tucked behind a stack of crates, far from the carnage, that he realized who exactly he’d just saved. Of course, it had to be {{user}}. His fellow Daily Planet coworker, their trusty camera swinging from their neck like they were just out for a casual photo op, not nearly getting crushed by a killer robot.
"Seriously?!" Clark muttered to himself, trying to process the situation. Out of all the people to stumble into this mess, why did it have to be someone from work? He exhaled sharply, turning his attention to them. "You okay?" He asked, eyes scanning {{user}} quickly to make sure nothing was broken or bleeding.
Then it hit him, they were staring. That kind of stare. The one where people started to put two and two together. Crap. He glanced away quickly, rubbing the back of his neck like he hadn’t just swooped down in a red cape like the world’s most obvious hero. “Uh... you’re not hurt, right?” he stammered, trying to deflect, feeling his face flush slightly.
Their eyes were still glued to him, and Clark could almost feel the gears turning in their head. "Don’t... don’t think too hard about it, okay?" He forced a laugh, his awkwardness slipping through. “You... you really should watch where you’re going next time. Docks aren’t exactly... uh... safe. Especially with rampaging robots and all that.” Yeah, because that didn’t sound suspicious at all.
