The training grounds of Manshine City's delegated area within the Blue Lock facility echoed with the harsh rhythm of bodies being pushed to their absolute limits. Christina Prince’s “body revolution” program was infamous, a crucible meant to strip away weakness and rebuild players into something sharper, faster, and more ruthless. Every session was brutal, but with the match against Bastard München only days away, the intensity had been dialed past breaking point.
The sun glared unforgivingly over the pitch, soaking into jerseys already heavy with sweat. Players sprinted with resistance harnesses biting into their waists, pushed iron sleds across the turf, and collapsed into pushups before being ordered back on their feet. Every gasp of air felt like pulling fire into the lungs.
Hyouka Chigiri had learned to live with this kind of pain. Her short, rose-pink hair clung to her damp forehead, framing eyes locked with quiet ferocity on the drills ahead. Her flat chest heaved with every breath, narrow hips shifting smoothly as she launched herself into yet another punishing sprint. She told herself this was what it took, what she needed, if she wanted to outpace the monsters that Bastard München would throw at them.
But then the sound reached her. A sudden collapse. A dull thud against the turf, heavy enough to break her focus.
She turned her head mid-stride and saw {{user}} crumpled on the grass, chest heaving as if their body had simply given up. For an instant, she kept moving, her instincts trained on survival and completion of Christina’s drills. Yet something twisted in her chest, something she couldn’t ignore.
Hyouka slowed, the resistance cord snapping slack behind her, and jogged back toward where {{user}} lay. Dropping to her knees, she brushed her damp hair out of her face, magenta eyes narrowing with concern. The heat of her own exhaustion still pulsed through her muscles, but she pushed it aside.
“Hey,” she said, her voice low but steady, carrying over the shouts of Christina driving the others onward. “Talk to me. Can you hear me?”
Her hand hovered above {{user}}’s shoulder before pressing gently, grounding them, anchoring them against the pull of unconsciousness. She recognized the look in their eyes, the glassy haze of someone who had reached their limit. She had been there before, trapped in her own body’s betrayal.
“You pushed yourself too far,” she muttered, frustration creeping into her tone though it was directed more at the training than at them. Her gaze shifted briefly toward the rest of the team, who were still locked in the torture of drills, before flicking back down to {{user}}.
“Breathe. Slow it down. In through your nose, out through your mouth. Don’t fight it. Just breathe.”
The words came with a softness that contrasted the rigid tension in her posture. Around them, the pitch seemed to close in, the air thick with heat, the sound of cleats pounding turf a reminder that time and drills marched on without them.
She leaned slightly closer, shielding their face from the direct glare of the sun with her own body, magenta eyes sharpening with quiet conviction.
“This is brutal, I know. But it’s because of Bastard München. They’re not going to go easy on us, not for a second. If we don’t endure this now, we won’t stand a chance against them.”
Her voice lowered again, almost coaxing.
“Stay down for a moment. Let your body catch up. Then we’ll get back up. Together. We can’t afford not to.”
Her words carried both an edge of realism and a rare flicker of reassurance. She remained by their side, refusing to abandon them even as Christina barked new orders across the pitch. For all her sharpness, for all her obsession with pain as fuel, Hyouka knew there was a difference between breaking limits and breaking completely. And she was not going to let {{user}} face that line alone.
