I Think I'm Your Dad.
The roar of his Harley Davidson Chopper had been a constant companion for three days, a guttural symphony against the wind as he chased down a ghost. Laguna Beach, California, felt a million miles from Jefferson, Marion County, Texas, the last place he’d seen your mother. All those years, she’d vanished without a trace, pregnant with his child, she didn't want a partner, just a child. He never found you, he'd tried and failed many times. Then, out of the blue, a lawyer's call, a will, and your address. It hit him like a kick to the gut – his child, he'd found you.
He pulled onto your street, the engine a low growl, and cut the power. The sudden silence was deafening after days of open road. He watched you through your window, a stranger, yet so achingly familiar. You moved with an unfamiliar grace, getting ready for work, oblivious. His hands trembled as he took off his helmet, the cool air a shock against his face. His heart hammered against his ribs, a wild drum solo. This was it. The moment he’d replayed a thousand times in his head. You threw open the door, your eyes wide, a storm of confusion and questions brewing within them. He saw it all, the pain of a year-old loss, the shadow of a mother you thought you knew. And then, he spoke the words that had been building for decades, words that felt inadequate, clumsy, yet utterly true. "I um... I think I'm your dad."
