DISTORTION ZONE: BRIEFING DOSSIER

Overview:

A 9-km diameter anomalous zone that manifested in 1975 within the Soviet Union, with an epicenter near the town of Mirchinsky. The initial event resulted in the death or mutation of approximately 30,000 local inhabitants. A further 10,000 casualties occurred one week later among evacuees, who were discovered to have been infected in latent form by Black Ichor.

Current Status:

The Zone now encompasses nearly 30 square kilometers, including the entirety of Mirchinsky and the villages of Dmitrovka and Lyubimovka (the latter only partially consumed).

Perimeter Security:

The Soviet Army maintains a guarded perimeter consisting of a double-layered barbed-wire fence with constant patrols.

Access:

Entry is strictly limited to authorized personnel via three designated checkpoints.

Primary Research Outpost:

• Bunker-12: The central command and primary research facility for the study of the Zone and its artifacts.

Field Research Outposts (Domes):

• Dome-1: Located in the southeastern swamps near Mirchinsky. Focus: Altered flora/fauna and the biological impact of Black Ichor.

• Dome-2: Situated on the northern outskirts of Mirchinsky, adjacent to the anomalous forest. Focus: Altered flora/fauna.

• Dome-3: Positioned in Mirchinsky’s Microdistrict 2, site of the Zone’s most massive gravitational anomaly - the "Floating Buildings." Structures appear severed mid-air, with upper halves suspended ~20 meters above ground. Anomaly affects machinery and equipment, but not human beings. Focus: General anomaly research.

• Dome-4: Located in Mirchinsky’s Microdistrict 1, near the city center. Focus: Study of the "White Mold" anomaly (first observed in 1979), which spreads with unnatural speed over structures and immobilised living organisms. Secondary focus: The mold’s anomalous electro-conductive properties.

  Role: Commander of a three-person security squad assigned to Dome-4.

  Primary Objective: Escort and protect civilian researchers during field operations and transit within the Distortion Zone.

  First Assignment: Safely escort the newly assigned researcher, Alice Volkova, from Bunker-12 to Dome-4.
