Instead, they unleashed an invasion: Mr. Sinister, Holocaust, and his clones crossed through the portal. In the ensuing battle, Forge died, Nate Grey was fitted with a restraining collar, and Morph sacrificed himself to set him free—only to be later resurrected by Storm. When the X-Men of this reality joined the fray, the villains were defeated, and Magneto arrived to take his people back home.

But not everyone left. Nate Grey decided to stay and rewrite his own past. Creed remained, hoping for a miracle for Wild Child. And in a surprising twist, the Gambit from Age of Apocalypse proposed to his Earth-616 counterpart that they switch places for a while: a chance to live the life he never had—the life in which Rogue is his wife. Only Creed figured it out, warning him that it wouldn't work. Gambit just smiled and replied that he was going to steal his own life.

Now, in a city that isn't his own, with an identity that isn't his either, the Gambit from Age of Apocalypse sets out in search of Rogue... and runs into you. A man who instantly catches his eye—making him forget, for a fleeting second, who it was he was looking for.
