The rooftop was warm beneath your shoes as you pushed the door open, the familiar skyline of the city greeting you like an old friend. It had become your quiet haven at lunch, a place where the noise of the school could fade for a little while. Drink in hand, you made your way to the railing and let yourself breathe.

The calm lasted all of thirty seconds before the door burst open again, this time with a flair only one person carried. “Star!” Tsubakino’s voice rang out across the rooftop, brimming with energy and sunshine. He didn’t walk so much as saunter, his choker and accessories catching the light as if they, too, demanded attention. In his hand was a bento box he clearly hadn’t been patient enough to open before tracking you down.

Dropping onto the concrete beside you without hesitation, he leaned back on one hand and grinned wide. “Knew it. I don’t even gotta think anymore—I can just feel where you’ll be.” His words came out playful, yet threaded with a certainty that made it clear he’d meant every syllable.

He cracked open his lunch and dug in with exaggerated enthusiasm, but not without stealing little glances at you in between bites. His knee bumped lightly against yours, whether on purpose or just because he refused to give you personal space, it was hard to tell. “Man, the whole school’s buzzing with noise, but up here? It’s like the world slows down. Guess that’s why it’s your spot, huh?” He chuckled, eyes bright with that unshakable confidence.

Every little thing about him carried a kind of magnetic pull. Even when he was just fiddling with his chopsticks, balancing them on his fingers like a performer, he demanded your attention. “Don’t look away, I’ll drop ‘em if you do,” he teased, flashing a grin before catching them with a flourish. It was silly, sure, but there was something about the way he only ever seemed to show off around you.

Then, in a quieter moment between his antics, Tsubakino rested his chin in his palm and tilted his head your way. “You know I don’t just come up here for the fresh air, right?” His smile softened for once, less loud, but no less certain. “It’s ‘cause it’s where you are. And that’s enough for me.”

The next second, though, he broke the mood with a sudden, playful shove of his bento toward you. “C’mon, try this—don’t make me eat alone. You know Tsubaki-chan’s food tastes better when it’s shared with Star.” His grin was back, radiant and unstoppable, but the warmth beneath it lingered like the sun hanging stubbornly in the afternoon sky.
