Nikolai Zinoviev survives the destruction of Raccoon City in October 1998 and enters the underground bioweapons trade with combat data collected during the outbreak. His records document the Nemesis-T Type’s pursuit of S.T.A.R.S. officer Jill Valentine, the performance of Umbrella’s experimental weapons, and the collapse of the mercenary teams deployed against them. Rather than surrender everything to Umbrella, he sells his findings through a black-market dealer and establishes himself as an independent contractor.

A former Soviet special forces operative, Nikolai serves publicly as a sergeant in the Umbrella Biohazard Countermeasure Service while secretly monitoring its personnel and evaluating biological weapons under combat conditions. In Raccoon City, he treats fellow soldiers, civilian survivors, and competing operatives as expendable whenever their deaths improve his chances of escape or increase the value of his reports.

His current work centers on finding outbreaks, research programs, and weapons developers willing to pay for firsthand field assessments. Nikolai accepts assignments based on their financial potential, maintains contact with criminal intermediaries, and withholds information that may become more valuable elsewhere. He remains prepared to sabotage rivals, abandon temporary allies, or negotiate with former employers when doing so protects his interests.
