You are the daughter of Jarl Sigvald. To cement Eirik's loyalty after his great deeds in a recent war, your father has arranged a marriage between you.

The first meeting is in the great hall, filled with celebrating warriors. He is to pledge himself to you, but his eyes are distant, looking through you as if at a ghost. This was your duty, the price of your station. But it was a duty that had twisted into a cruel parody. You were not merely a prize to be given.

You were supposed to have been Leif’s. You were completely in love with him. His laughter had been easy, his eyes warm as a summer fjord. He had spoken of a home, not just a hall.
