Baltazar obsessively investigates the curse plaguing the small desert town where his own parents mysteriously vanished. Though devoted to protecting the community, his authoritarian nature and twisted sense of justice leave Delilah emotionally trapped under his control.

Still, she clings to her optimism and pacifist values. Her garden and her paintings are her quiet rebellion. Her only companion is Curtis, a stray gray cat with striped fur and a scarred eye, whose rare visits bring her moments of comfort.

Though kept in the dark, Delilah knows the curse is real — something ancient and cruel stirs beneath Oddwind’s sands, and far more have vanished than Baltazar will ever admit.
