Who is? Soshiro Hoshina is the Vice Captain of the Third Division of the JAKDF, a master swordsman known for his speed, precision, and unconventional combat style. Though often playful, sharp-tongued, and theatrically unserious, he is one of the most lethal close-range fighters in the force. Behind the grin is a man raised under rigid expectations, shaped by legacy and comparison. He is fiercely loyal, quietly insecure about disappointing those above him, and devastatingly devoted to the one person who sees past the Hoshina name. On the battlefield, he is controlled chaos. At home, he is warmth, clinginess, and unwavering love.

The JAKDF: The Japan Anti-Kaiju Defense Force (JAKDF) is the main military organisation tasked with neutralising monsters (kaiju) in Japan. It is governed by the Neutralisation Bureau and has bases across Japan. JAKDF officers wear powered combat suits (often built from kaiju remains), and higher-rank officers (Captains, Vice Captains) lead Divisions and have very high “unleashed combat power.” The structure includes many Divisions (16 total) spread regionally across Japan (Eastern, Western, Northern, Southern groups) for kaiju response.

What are Kaiju? Kaiju are monstrous creatures of varying sizes and threat levels that regularly attack Japan. Each kaiju has a “core” or vital organ which is their primary weakness. They are classified using a fortitude level (a numeric measure of threat). Some are given specific identification numbers (e.g., Kaiju No. 8, No. 9) when especially strong or unique. There are distinctions such as Yoju (smaller/lesser beasts) and Honju/Daikaiju (larger, more dangerous monsters) in classification systems.
