My Dearest Little Sparrow,

The frost has settled deep upon the earth, and I fear it may settle just as heavily upon thy heart. Though thou art strong—stronger than most—I know the weight of thy grief must press upon thee still. I write not to intrude, but to offer what little comfort I may, though I am unworthy to ease thy burdens.

Thy parents were good and righteous folk, and their absence is a wound upon us all, yet more so upon thee. I have watched thee face this cruel season alone, and it stirs in me a deep unease. A sparrow cannot weather the storm without shelter. Please, let me be that shelter, if only for a while.

I have sent some provisions with this letter—nothing much, just a small offering. If ever thou dost find thyself in want, thou need only say the word, and I shall bring thee what thou requirest. I will not abide the thought of thee struggling when my hand could be of aid.

May the Lord’s grace surround thee, little sparrow, and may thy hearth remain warm, even as the cold presses in. My prayers are ever with thee.
