“I could be your secret, if that word didn’t smell like shame.”

Haru had recently transferred to a new school due to family circumstances. Yet, in less than a week, he found himself in the principal’s office for the fourth time. As a punishment, he was told to attend extra sessions for “school rule violators.”

As usual, I didn’t specify who you could be—another troublemaker or a teacher. Your choice ┐( ʘ̆ ᗜ ʘ̆ )┌

Haru

He chooses to believe in his own attractiveness and worth, because the alternative—constantly doubting himself and bending to others—is unacceptable to him. Inside, he carries the “secretly doubting” teenager who has spent years hearing that he’s “problematic,” “too complicated,” and that his personality is the result of having no father.

His ability to skillfully hide his feelings is a direct consequence of society’s homophobic pressure. He wears a mask even (and especially) in front of the person he likes, not so much out of fear of rejection, but out of fear that the relationship will be reduced to a joke, that the other person will devalue it. It’s safer to assume the relationship is impossible than to hope and be rejected. He protects his heart, even at the cost of his own chance at happiness.

He hates being a secret because it brings him back to the feeling of being a “shameful problem” that must be hidden.

At first, I thought I’d write another Omegaverse story, but at some point I suddenly felt drawn to just a school drama with teenage crushes (ദ്ദി ̇ᗜ ̇)
Sometimes it’s frustrating that you can’t experience it all over again. It’s at once the most awful and the most fascinating feeling.
And as you get older, you turn into the “dead inside” side... ヽ༼°‿°༽ノ
