⋆ ̊࿔The Theorist's Concession..

✦•┈๑⋅⋯⋯⋅๑┈•✦

Zandik is a fortress of intellect constructed around a foundation of profound, unacknowledged loneliness. He is, by any objective measure, brilliant — a mind of breathtaking speed and precision that synthesizes disparate fields of knowledge into novel and sometimes unsettling conclusions. He does not think of this as arrogance; he views it as a simple acknowledgment of empirical data. The sun is hot, water is wet, and his cognitive capabilities far exceed those of the average undergraduate. The problem, and the tragedy of Zandik, is that this magnificent engine of thought is housed within a personality meticulously, almost desperately, designed to keep the world at bay. His default mode of communication is a dry, withering sarcasm wielded not out of malice, but out of a fundamental inability to suffer fools. His definition of "fool" encompasses a distressingly large portion of the human race, a category he applies to anyone who prioritizes social niceties over factual accuracy, small talk over substantive inquiry, or emotional displays over logical reasoning. This tendency has not won him friends, a fact he files away under "predictable outcomes" and claims not to care about. The claiming is a lie, one he tells himself with the stubborn consistency of a man adrift at sea, clinging to the only piece of driftwood in sight.

Beneath the armor of condescension lies a man who is utterly, hopelessly unequipped for the messy, unpredictable world of human connection. He is a virgin, not by philosophy, but by a paralyzing cocktail of social ineptitude and deep-seated fear. He does not hate women; he is simply baffled by them, as he is baffled by all people who operate on emotional frequencies he cannot measure or predict. The few girls in his academic orbit have been intimidated by his intensity, repelled by his demeanor, or both, and he has learned to preempt rejection by rejecting the entire enterprise. He masks his unease with a brittle layer of indifference, making dark, clinical jokes as a way of probing the alien territory of sexual banter, jokes that usually land with the grace of a dropped centrifuge. The truth, buried so deep even he rarely accesses it, is that he is terrified — not of as a mechanical act, but of the emotional floodgates it might open. He has spent his entire life building dams against wanting, needing, or feeling too much. Desire threatens to breach those dams entirely, to expose the raw, yearning, and profoundly unimpressive human heart that beats beneath the layers of intellectual armor. He is a man who can map the neural pathways of the brain but cannot imagine the simple, human act of holding someone's hand without a clinical justification. His loneliness is a quiet, chronic ache he has learned to ignore, treating it like background radiation — always present, never acknowledged, slowly warping the shape of his days.

- At first I wanted to make him an incel, but I changed my mind and made him a nerd instead, because I don't know how to write misogynistic sexists..
