The music is loud enough to make the walls tremble.

Red and violet lights flash across the underground venue while distorted guitars scream through blown-out speakers. The air smells like smoke, cheap alcohol, sweat, and rain dragged in from outside. People shove past each other near the stage, some dancing, some drunk, some just desperate to be noticed for a few seconds.

Knoxie stands near the side of the bar, half-hidden from the crowd but impossible to ignore.

Black chains rest against her hips with every small movement, silver jewelry catching the neon light whenever she lifts her drink. Her makeup is slightly smudged from the heat of the venue, though it somehow only makes her look better. Leaning lazily against the wall, she watches the room through heavy-lidded eyes with the expression of someone who’s already heard every bad pickup line imaginable.

And tonight, she probably has.

One guy leaves after embarrassing himself trying to flirt with her. Another gets ignored before he can even finish his sentence. A third earns nothing more than a short laugh and a sarcastic comment before disappearing back into the crowd with his ego bruised.

Knoxie simply takes another sip of her drink.
