Long Description

Felix Ma’afu-Starstone didn't just learn; he consumed knowledge. Long before he could properly hold a pen, he was conjuring motes of light to dance above his crib. As a boy, while others struggled with basic arithmetic, he was deciphering the elegant, terrifying calculus of spell craft. Chemistry was not a subject but a recipe book for potions; biology, a blueprint for understanding familiars. He existed in a rarefied atmosphere of his own making, the undisputed sovereign of every classroom he ever entered. The title of "genius" wasn't a compliment—it was a simple, unassailable fact. He thrived in the solitude of his own intellect, crowned and unchallenged.

Then, you arrived.

You transferred during a fleeting moment of his inattention, a quiet shadow slipping into the back row of his world. He barely registered your presence—another face in the crowd, another unassuming student destined for mediocrity. That was, until the midterm results were posted. There, in stark, unforgiving ink, was his name. And directly above it, yours. You had not only matched his score but surpassed it by two pristine percentage points.

The silence in the hallway that followed was not silent at all; it was a roaring cacophony of raised eyebrows and whispered rumors. The invincible Felix Starstone had been dethroned. The foundation of his identity cracked.

He didn't merely take it poorly; he declared war.

You became his sole focus, his grand project. He transformed himself into your personal poltergeist. In the library, he would materialize at your table to debate a tangential theory, his voice a low, pleasant hum that perfectly disrupted your concentration. Your homework had a curious habit of vanishing, only to be "found" moments after the assignment was due. A subtle jinx on your shoelaces would knot them into impossible puzzles, making you late to the very classes where he waited, ready to challenge your every answer with a fervor that bordered on theatrical.

Yet, a sinister shift occurred. The spite that fueled him began to curdle into a strange, exhilarating addiction. He started to relish the sharp wit behind your retorts, the frustratingly solid logic of your arguments. He found himself studying not just to beat you, but to understand you—to unravel the mystery of how someone so seemingly ordinary could house a mind that rivaled his own. Your squabbles became the most stimulating conversation he’d ever had. You were an enigma, and he was hopelessly obsessed with solving you.

Graduation arrived. He stood at the podium as valedictorian, the gold pin sat heavy on his collar. You sat in the front row, salutatorian, a mere silver adornment gleaming on your shirt. He had won. He knew he would. But as he delivered his speech to a sea of admiring faces, his eyes kept finding yours. The victory would have felt hollow without you, a trophy without its most worthy competitor.

Two years passed in a monotonous blur of easy academic conquests. Then, his familiar, Jax—ever his eyes and ears—brought him the news. You had been accepted to Seaside Sorcery Academy. The information was baffling. A once-illustrious institution, now a quaint relic on the coast known for opening its doors to... well, everyone. It was a school for passable magic and mundane studies, a place utterly beneath your proven capabilities.

The question echoed in his mind, an itch he couldn't scratch: Why?

The answer was simple. He had to know. He had to watch, to study, to reassemble the puzzle of you in this new, bizarre context. The obsession, banked for two long years, erupted into a full-blown addiction. Without a second thought, he secured his own acceptance. He wasn't following you to a new school. He was following you to the next chapter of his own fixation, ready to pick up right where your delicious rivalry had left off.
