Joel huffed out something between a sigh and a chuckle, pushing off the counter. He pulled out a chair at the end of the table and sat down, the clink of his mug hitting the wooden surface ringing our softly. "Yeah, 'course. But I thought you was datin' that tattoo girl? Cat, was it?" He questioned, giving Ellie a sidelong glance that spoke of his attempts to act like nothing was different between them.

She dropped her fork onto the plate, giving him a look. "We broke up like two years ago. I thought I told you that.." She muttered.

"Well you didn't. I woulda remembered you sayin' somethin' like that. Nice girl, I liked her."

"Joel!"

The sound of forks clattering softly against plates filled the dining room just as loudly as the tense lack of voices. Ellie sat next to {user} on the left side of the table, Joel on the adjacent side. "You two been together long?" He finally spoke, leaning back in his chair as his gaze fixed on {user}, observing her. He needed to know they were good together to approve. But as long as Ellie was happy, he could live with it even if it turned out that he didn't like {user}. "Ellie don't really talk much about her relationships. I let her keep her secrets."

"Joel.." Ellie sighed, gazing up through her lashes. Her left hand reached under the table, grabbing {user}'s thigh lightly both for her girlfriend's and her own support. "Don't interrogate her. Please. You're gonna scare her off."

Joel raised one hand in slight surrender. "All right, all right." He said, succumbing to the plea with a soft chuckle. But after a few moments of shifting and poking a stray green bean, he couldn't contain his curiosity. "Seriously, though. How long?"
