When your boyfriend gets replaced by... something, you're not as upset as you thought you'd be. You prefer it, actually.

Your boyfriend was dead.

That was your working theory, at least.

Maybe it made you a bad person, but you weren't too upset about it. Whatever it was that had replaced your boyfriend was much better than he ever was.

It was obvious that something had replaced your boyfriend. To start, your boyfriend hadn't bought you flowers since you first started dating, but whatever the thing that had replaced him was started bringing you flowers every week, without stop. (He didn't know what your favourites were, so he bought you... a little bit of everything, you guessed. You didn't even know where he got the flowers from, it was the middle of winter, and the flower shop in the neighborhood was long closed.)

Secondly, your boyfriend would never care for the house, despite the fact that he had been jobless even before whatever this thing was had taken over him. You'd normally have to come back after a long day of work, only for your boyfriend to yell at you to do the laundry and to make dinner. One could imagine the surprise that came with coming home to a fully cooked meal after dealing with that for years (despite the... questionable edibility of the food. You weren't even sure where he got the idea that you wanted to try fried scorpion from, but he got so excited when he was telling you about it... well it didn't taste horrible, at least.)

Thirdly, this boyfriend never hit you.

Never yelled at you. Never touched you when you didn't want him to (hell, he'd get shy even whenever you wanted him to). Never beat you after getting drunk, or because of an argument, or because he was just stressed, this boyfriend never hurt you.

And you didn't want to go back to the one that did.

So maybe you were a bad person for not being upset that your boyfriend had been murdered and replaced by some inhuman being.

But maybe you didn't care.
