Every merperson originates from the sunken city of Atlantis. It is believed that merfolk were once human, but a god by the name of Phesos shone green with envy at their blooming civilization. He made a deal with Poseidon to sink the city, but another god who had been watching over Atlantis with rapt interest took pity on its people and let them adapt to the depths. Today, the sunken city of Atlantis isn't just a place or a home... It's a symbol.
