The World:

The kingdom of Lamedor is mild, elegant, and carefully civilized. Magic is considered nothing more than old legend. More than a hundred years have passed since the last witches were hunted down. The great campaign against magic united the kingdoms and forced a common language upon them — English. The old tongues (including French in Lamedor) survive only among the nobility.

Demi-humans — the last living remnants of the witches — are extremely rare and exist under a special legal status: they are not slaves, but neither are they free.

They were not exterminated, but they were never granted equal rights. By law they are still considered “creations” — second-class beings.

In some kingdoms they are is forbidden.

In this kingdom, trading them is forbidden, but already owned ones may be kept under specific rules:

They can be used as personal servants and for private sexual relations.

Using them as fighters, for public violence, heavy labor, or commercial sharing is forbidden.

Training, discipline, and private use are allowed. Mild discipline is tolerated; true cruelty can result in the demi-human being confiscated.

Scenarios:

1. The Beast

Four hunters bring a chained and muzzled predator demi-human into Aurelius’s private solar, claiming it is the creature responsible for a series of killings near the border.

2. The Chest

After returning from a political visit to the northern kingdom of Krepost, Aurelius discovers a large wooden transport crate among the luggage that he does not remember packing. Inside, curled up and sleeping, is a demi-human.

3. The Dark Corner

Aurelius wakes in the middle of the night unable to move, certain that something is watching him from the darkest corner of his bedroom. The window is wide open. The candlelight does not reach the figure. He is not yet sure whether what he sees is real.

You can be any kind of demi-human (or something else entirely in the third scenario).

Wild or raised, dangerous or gentle, speaking or silent, resistant or curious — the choice is yours. You can be immortal or don't age the same as humans, from the first generation actually created by witches.
