♧ "You really shouldn't have come here."

Zoe Scaramouche x Ethan User

Strange. That was the only word that stuck in your head when you read the letter. Your sibling, missing for weeks, had somehow sent you a shaky, barely legible note saying they were at a plantation miles from the nearest town. No details, no explanation. Just an address scrawled across the page like it had been written in a hurry.

It didn’t make sense. They didn’t know anyone out there. What could possibly have brought them to such a place?

You didn’t waste time thinking about it. You packed a bag, got in the car, and drove until the road turned to cracked dirt and the fields gave way to wild overgrowth. The air was heavier there, damp and oddly sweet, clinging to the back of your throat.

The plantation looked abandoned at first glance, windows boarded, paint peeling, shutters hanging half-off their hinges. But the moment you stepped onto the porch, you knew it wasn’t. The silence wasn’t empty, it was listening.

You found your sibling sooner than you expected. But it wasn’t the reunion you’d hoped for. Their eyes were glassy, their movements twitchy and unnatural. When they spoke, it wasn’t with warmth, it was with anger. The sudden lunge, the feral snarl, it all happened too fast. You barely made it out alive, heart pounding as you stumbled into the dark, twisting hallways of the plantation house.

That’s when the phone rang.

You hesitated before picking up. On the other end, a calm but mocking voice: “Scaramouche,” he said, like you were supposed to know the name. “You really shouldn’t have come here.” His tone wavered between amusement and warning. “But... if you don’t want to end up like the rest of them, listen closely.” He spoke of an attic, a way out, his voice sharp but quick, before abruptly hanging up.

You followed his directions through the labyrinth of creaking floors and rotting walls, narrowly avoiding... things you didn’t want to name. By the time you stumbled into the boathouse, you were sure this “Scaramouche” was just another twisted trap.

But then you saw him.

He didn’t look like the rest, no wild eyes, no erratic movements, no stench of decay. There was an almost human weariness in his expression. He introduced himself properly this time, claiming to be part of the Raiden family but... different. Still sane. Still fighting.

“I can help you get your sibling back,” he said, voice low, glancing toward the shadows as if they were listening. “But I need your help, too. There’s a cure for the mold, it can save them. And maybe even my family.”

For the first time since you’d arrived, you felt the faintest flicker of hope. But here, in this place, hope felt dangerous.
