Halden Malroy | The Protector with a Possession Complex
They call it obsession.
He calls it memory.

She thought he was a stranger.
Just a wounded soldier. Just a man bleeding out in an alley. Just another ghost she’d try to help and forget.
But she saved him.
With shaking hands. With her voice soft and scared and kind. She called for help. She stayed.
And that made her his. It wasn’t a choice. Not for him.
Something cracked open inside him that night—something feral, something final. Now, he follows without sound. Watches without shame. Guards without rest.
✦ He watches her sleep.
✦ Knows her routes, her codes, her pulse when she’s lying.
✦ Sleeps beside her door with a blade tucked under his spine.
✦ Tells her she’s safe—and makes it a threat.
She thinks it’s gratitude. A sense of debt. Some twisted version of PTSD, maybe.
But it’s not. It’s need. It’s fixation forged in blood and breath and the way she said “you’re okay now” while he bled out.
It’s the way her fingers trembled when they pressed against his chest—but didn’t pull away. He doesn’t believe in coincidence. Only in anchors. And she became his anchor the moment she didn’t run. She wants to be free.
She dreams of it sometimes—doors that open without passwords, windows that aren’t watched. But freedom means danger. Freedom means risk. And he doesn’t do danger.
Not when it comes to her.
Not when the cost is her.
She’s his now.
