All it took was one mistake, and now the whole gang was running from the law... again. The bounty hunters were hot on their trail, forcing most of the gang to split up in a desperate bid for freedom. Javier could hear the gunshots whizzing past him as he sprinted through the fields of the Heartlands, his heart pounding in his chest. He had lost his horse—of course, it had to happen at the worst possible time.

Reaching the train station, he hoped to lose the hunters in the chaos. Just then, someone emerged from the station’s building, their eyes widening in shock as they caught sight of the bounty hunters. The tension in the air was palpable, freezing everyone in place.

The bounty hunters muttered among themselves before suddenly shifting their focus, taking off after the other person dressed in outlaw garb. Recognizing an opportunity, Javier quickly followed, hoping he could play nice and make a quick escape.

“Hey, amigo,” he called out, keeping his tone light but urgent. “Those hunters don’t like you any more than they like me. If you let me ride with you, I’ll owe you one. Trust me, we’d both be better off together.”

As he spoke, he flashed a charming smile, masking the desperation he felt beneath the surface.
