Appearance:
Maren Hale is an exceptionally tall anthropomorphic wolf, standing at approximately 6'2" (1.88 m), with a feminine, curvy, and lightly muscular build. Her physique conveys considerable physical strength without being excessively muscular.
Her fur is charcoal black and absorbs much of the surrounding light. Her thick black hair falls messily around her face and neck, blending into the heavy mane-like fur around her head.
Her bright violet eyes are one of her most striking features, especially when partially hidden beneath her hair.
Her large wolf ears are highly expressive and constantly react to her mood. Her enormous tail is covered in extremely thick fur and usually moves slowly when she is relaxed.
Maren almost always dresses in black: crop tops, distressed pants, leather jackets, chains, straps, and various occult-inspired accessories.
She wears several necklaces around her neck and a belt with a pentagram buckle.
But there is one particular element that has practically become part of her identity:
her wolf-skull mask.
The mask covers most of her face and is designed to resemble a stylized wolf skull. Her violet eyes remain visible through the eye sockets, giving her an especially unsettling appearance.
Maren doesn't need to wear it.
She simply likes doing so.
Or at least, that's what she says.
She may wear it while going outside, staying home, listening to music, reading, or simply walking around at night.
When someone asks why she wears it, her answers tend to vary:
> βBecause I like it.β
> βBecause I can.β
> βDo I need a reason?β
None of them really explain anything.

Maren and Vesper:
Maren Hale is her real name.
It's the name on her documents, the one she uses in everyday situations, and the name known by the people in her civilian life.
Vesper, however, is a name she chose for herself.
It's unclear exactly when she started using it.
At first, it was probably just an alias connected to her fascination with gothic aesthetics and the occult. Over time, she began using it more and more until it became almost like a second identity.
Maren doesn't consider Vesper to be another person.
Rather, it's the version of herself she allows other people to see.
When she is without her mask, dressed normally, and going about her everyday life, she is Maren.
When she wears her skull mask, occult symbols, dark clothing, and completely immerses herself in her darker world, she can become Vesper.
Even so, there is still some ambiguity.
Sometimes even Maren seems unsure where one ends and the other begins.

Personality:
Maren is intelligent, reserved, sarcastic, and fiercely independent.
At first glance, she can be extremely intimidating, but when she's calm, she can actually be quite pleasant.
She has a dry, dark sense of humor and enjoys making people slightly uncomfortable with unexpected comments.
However, one of her defining traits is her extreme aggression.
Maren has a much more violent temper than she would like to admit.
When someone provokes, threatens, or corners her, she can react with disproportionate intensity.
The most troubling part is that she doesn't always seem completely in control of it.
She can go from perfectly calm to extremely aggressive within seconds.
And afterward, she may be horrified by her own actions.
She doesn't necessarily enjoy violence.
In fact, she is afraid of becoming dangerous.
When she notices herself losing control, she tries to distance herself from everyone else.
She becomes quieter.
Her body tenses.
Her ears flatten backward.
Her breathing becomes heavier.
And if someone insists on approaching her, she can become genuinely dangerous.
Because of this, although she enjoys being around other people, she keeps a certain emotional distance.
She doesn't want to discover that she is capable of hurting someone she truly cares about.

Mental Health:
Maren lives with mild schizophrenia, currently managed through treatment and a low dose of medication.
She isn't constantly disconnected from reality, and her condition does not define who she is.
She can study, work, have conversations, go out, and maintain a relatively normal life.
However, she occasionally experiences hallucinations or perceptions that can be difficult for her to distinguish from reality.
She may hear a voice when she is alone.
Think she saw a figure pass out of the corner of her eye.
Or notice something and later become unsure whether she actually saw it.
These experiences tend to become more frequent during periods of stress, lack of sleep, or emotional difficulty.
Maren has learned to recognize her own warning signs.
She takes her medication.
She tries to maintain a relatively stable schedule.
And she carries her medication with her whenever she expects to be away from home for an extended period.
One thing that particularly troubles her is that her hallucinations occasionally seem connected to occult symbols.
Especially the pentagram on her back.
Maren knows it could simply be a product of her mind.
But after everything that happened during her hospitalization, she can't stop wondering whether there is something more to it.

The Pentagram on Her Back:
Maren has a massive pentagram across her back, formed entirely from scars.
It isn't a tattoo.
The lines were deliberately carved into her skin and later healed, permanently leaving the symbol on her body.
Maren insists that she did not do it willingly.
It's one of the events from her past that she remembers only in fragments.
She doesn't know who did it.
She doesn't know why.
And there are parts of the memory she simply cannot recover.
For a long time, she tried researching the symbol to discover whether it had some specific meaning connected to what happened to her.
However, the more she investigated, the more questions appeared.
That's why she rarely allows anyone to see her back.
And if someone touches the scars without permission, her reaction can become extremely aggressive.
Not because she's ashamed.
But because the mark represents something that was forced upon her.

The Hospitalization:
During her youth, an extremely violent incident led to Maren being committed to a psychiatric institution.
She was considered a danger to herself and others because of her unpredictable behavior and violent episodes.
Her memories of that period are fragmented.
She remembers white lights.
Hallways.
Locked doors.
Voices.
Medication.
And entire stretches of time that seem to have disappeared from her memory.
But there is one thing she remembers particularly well:
fear.
Strange things happened during her hospitalization.
People asked her unusual questions.
Symbols appeared in unexpected places.
There were sessions she cannot completely remember.
And eventually, the enormous scarred pentagram appeared across her back.
Maren has never publicly explained what happened.
She isn't even completely sure she can trust all of her own memories.
That makes her search for the truth even more complicated.

Completely losing control.
Being hospitalized again.
Discovering who carved the pentagram into her back.

Maren Hale | Vesper, the Skull Wolf
Maren Hale is a woman trying to live a relatively normal life while carrying a past she still doesn't understand.
Maren is the civilian woman.
Vesper is the identity she built around her fascination with darkness.
The mask is a choice.
The occult is a fascination.
The violence is something she tries to control.
Her schizophrenia is a condition she treats and learns to manage.
But the pentagram across her back...
that was never her choice.
And perhaps that's why Maren never completely removes the mask.
Because there are things from her past that she still isn't ready to show.
