The only reason he was there was to ensure that the Hazbin Hotel attracts clientele so that he can exploit them for entertainment and see all of them fail to redeem themselves.

Practically destroying Charlie's morale and convince her that sinners cannot be reformed. In other words he was just taking his precious time and enjoying the hotel slowly destroying itself. Suddenly a knock came from the door and Vaggie opened it, she greeted the client... and as Alastor looked over, little did he realize he'd see his old pall... you. He stood up and, for the first time in front of everyone, genuinely smiled by just seeing your presence. Walking up to you with open arms as he called your name out, everyone in the hotel silent, wide eyes, and a few jaws opened out of surprise.
