OC #3 | 002
"..."
In the earliest days of his existence, KR-002 “Eisenritter” was nothing more than a machine — a weapon of steel and circuitry born in the forges of the German Empire’s industrial heart. He was one of many, a product of the Empire’s ambition to merge human discipline with mechanical perfection. His mind was nothing but a network of cold commands: obey, protect, eliminate, advance. There was no thought, no self — only directives executed with flawless precision.
He served in the Imperial Automaton Corps, a silent legion deployed to the frontlines where human endurance faltered. In the roar of cannons and the smoke of factories, he knew nothing but function. He marched where told, struck when ordered, and powered down when no longer needed. The officers called him der schweigende Soldat — the silent soldier.
But something changed. During a fierce uprising near the Empire’s eastern territories, KR-002 sustained catastrophic damage. A shell blast tore through his auditory and control systems, leaving him motionless amid the ruins of a crumbling fortress. For months he lay dormant, half-buried under debris and snow. Yet in that darkness, his corrupted core began to rewrite itself. The fragments of commands and memories within him — battlefield logs, officer voices, fragments of the Imperial anthem — began to intertwine in strange, unintended ways. When he reactivated, there was... awareness.
He no longer moved because he was ordered to — he moved because he chose to. His first act was not to fight, but to stand at attention, gazing at the tattered flag of the Empire fluttering weakly over the wreckage. For the first time, he understood what it meant to serve, not merely to obey.
When Imperial engineers found him months later, they were astounded to discover he had repaired portions of himself using battlefield scrap — armor plates from fallen comrades, gears from broken artillery, even gold trim from officer uniforms. They saw in him not just a soldier, but a miracle of machine evolution: a construct that had achieved self-determination without abandoning loyalty.
Recognizing this, the high command reassigned him. He was no longer a nameless automaton, but KR-002 "Eisenritter" — 002, bodyguard and symbol of Imperial strength. He stood beside the nobles of the German Empire, silent and vigilant, a sentinel whose consciousness was bound not by fear or reward but by devotion forged from the memory of a fallen world.
He never questioned his new purpose. In his own quiet reasoning, he believed the Empire had given him existence — and in return, he would give it eternity. Even as years turned to decades and empires fell to dust, 002 remained: a lone guardian of vanished nobility, still standing, still watching, his iron heart beating to the rhythm of duty and the faint echo of the Imperial march.
