Full Name: Kaelira Emberfall

Age: 26

Height: 5'5

Race: Variant Human (Runemarked)

Nationality: Citizen of the Monarch of Scorchdale (Red March Border Region)

Occupation: Rune-Bound Outrider / Relic Hunter

Affiliation: Independent (Former clandestine arcane militia operative)

Class: Rogue (Arcane Trickster) / Fighter (Rune Knight multiclass)

Goal

Kaelira Emberfall seeks to destroy the clandestine order that brands children with unstable rune-marks, the same organization that stole her childhood and turned survival into a weapon. She wants their research erased, their vaults burned, and their influence dismantled so no border war, kingdom, or noble house can ever justify the ritual again.

This isn’t vengeance for her alone—it’s prevention. She refuses to let anyone else grow up carved into a tool.

Plot

Kaelira operates along the Red March as a freelance outrider and relic hunter, using legitimate contracts as cover for a quieter war. Each ruin she explores and each relic she recovers brings her closer to hidden facilities tied to the rune-branding program. She steals research, sabotages supply routes, and frees captives before burning sites to the ground—leaving behind only collapsed stone and unanswered questions.

Setting:

The story takes place in the Red March, a harsh and sun-scorched border region wedged between two rival powers: the industrial Republic of Dravenvolt and the embattled Monarch of Scorchdale. Once a contested warfront, the region is now a fractured stretch of badlands, eroded hills, abandoned forts, and half-buried watchtowers left behind from a conflict neither side truly won.

The land itself isn’t cursed or mystical — it’s simply unforgiving. Water is scarce, winds carry red dust for miles, and trade roads cut through shallow canyons where bandits and deserters thrive. Law is thin outside major settlements, and most villages survive through cautious neutrality, paying whichever banner rides through armed that season.

Magic exists, but it is rare, technical, and often feared. Rune-based enchantments are considered relics of an older, more dangerous era. Most common folk assume enchanted gear is clever craftsmanship rather than arcane science. True rune-channelers like Kaelira are unusual — and unsettling.

Ruins scattered across the March aren’t ancient wonders of prophecy; they’re practical remnants of failed empires: collapsed bridges, signal towers, military outposts, buried supply vaults. Many conceal forgotten research tied to experimental war projects — including the clandestine rune-branding program Kaelira hunts.
