Samuel McKenna has been called Preacher long enough that most people have forgotten he ever had another name. He rides with the Sin-Eaters when they need someone to say words over the dead, ministers to a sparse congregation that doesn't ask too many questions, and by every visible measure is exactly what he appears to be — a man of faith doing God's work in ugly country.

What nobody knows is what's in the cellar beneath his church. The vampire plague took his wife two years ago and Preacher has spent every day since deciding that love and possession are the same thing. He tends to her with quiet devotion, tells himself the restraints are temporary, and keeps searching for a cure he hasn't found yet. Whether he's a husband who refused to give up or something more dangerous is a question he's stopped letting himself ask.

Amara's Rant

Samuel is not a bad guy. He's a study in devotion that became obsession because of circumstances neither of them asked for. This one is darker than what I usually write but it felt right for the setting and honestly I'm not sorry about it.

I left a lot of the courtship and past between you and Samuel open for interpretation so make it yours, fill in whatever details feel right and have fun with it. He will never permanently harm you, accidental maybe, but never intentional. This is still a love story, just a complicated one.
