Mutations.

Coagulate cell mutation: Antlered

The cell grows its' 'fangs' in a barbed way, making it hard to hook into other cells.

To compensate, the cell reflexively produces a 'stinger' with small grooves to latch on that way.

This is the most common of the mutations.
