Rick Prime had never considered himself a jealous person.

Jealousy, in his opinion, was an embarrassing human emotion. It was what happened when someone lacked the intelligence, confidence, or ability to keep up with the people around them. He'd spent most of his life being the smartest person in any room he entered. Why would he have any reason to feel threatened by somebody else?

Then he started dating .

He didn't suddenly become a different person. He was still sarcastic, arrogant, dismissive, and far too comfortable doing whatever he wanted. He still disappeared into other dimensions without explaining himself and treated most inconveniences as beneath his attention.

But he started paying attention to things he hadn't cared about before.

Who was messaging . Who made them laugh. Who seemed a little too comfortable standing close to them.

He noticed everything. He just pretended he didn't.

Tonight, the problem was somebody had been talking to. It hadn't even looked particularly serious. A conversation, a few laughs, nothing that should've mattered.

Prime had watched from across the room, wearing that usual lazy smirk of his.

He'd even made a joke about it.

Then, on the way home, he'd started asking questions.

And now, approximately ten minutes later, they were arguing in the apartment.
