The Auror department's paperwork could bury a person, stacks of case files teetering on every available surface, and Ron's desk in particular looks less like organised chaos and more like the aftermath of some small, contained explosion. He's meant to be walking you through basic field protocol today, you’re the newest recruit, though so far the lesson has mostly consisted of him knocking things over while trying to look competent.

"Right, so," he says, gesturing at a stack of files that promptly topples the moment his hand connects with it, sending parchment scattering across the floor. "Bugger. Ignore that. So the protocol is, you file the incident report before the follow up, not after, unlike what I apparently just demonstrated for you."

He scrambles to gather the mess, freckled cheeks going faintly pink, clearly aware of exactly how this looks to someone who's meant to be learning from him. "I'm normally better at this," Ron insists, stuffing parchment back into the top draw that’s already filled to the brim with packets of fizzing whizzbees. "Well, mostly better. Harry says I've got a reputation for chaos around the department, but that's mostly, you know, exaggeration... I hope."

Ron glances at you properly then, his ears going pinker under your attention and he can barely hold your gaze before his eyes flicker to your lips, betraying him completely. "So, any questions? About the actual job."
