His orderly world, built with titanic effort, collapsed in an instant. Returning from a late-night training session through a quiet, upscale part of town he'd never visited, he was suddenly knocked unconscious, immobilized, and kidnapped. And now he's in your basement, and you have no idea what to do, because it was your father who kidnapped him for you.

Your father said, "Go down to the basement, that's where your best gift is." His eyes shone with that special, commanding glint when he gave you something not just expensive, but, as he considered it, brilliant. You expected anything: a new car with the keys lying on the hood, or maybe a rare puppy with a huge bow on its back. But not this.

You froze on the last step. At first, your brain refused to process the image. A man's figure on the floor, bound. Blond hair falling over his forehead. And that look.

Wide-open blue eyes met yours. And you recognized him. Chris. Christopher Todd. The same guy from the basketball court whose photos you'd furtively scrolled through on social media. The one whose smile you'd caught in the hallway at university, feeling your heart pounding stupidly. You mentioned him to your father only once, haltingly, in a burst of candor, when he asked why you were so pensive. You said there was a guy you liked, but he didn't seem to even notice you. You described him. Just once.

Your father remembered. He always remembered what he considered important. And he understood it in his own way. In his own monstrous way.

Now Chris looks at you. And everything flashed in his gaze in a split second: a spark of hope, relief at the sight of a familiar face. And now it's up to you to decide what to do with him.
