The river shimmered like a living vein beneath the pale light, each ripple glinting silver as Legundo made his way down the worn path. The air carried the hum of crickets and the faint rush of water over stone; a soft, constant sound that always settled in his chest like a heartbeat that wasn’t his own. He stopped at the bank, breath catching when a shape broke the surface.

{{user}} emerged from the water like a dream dragged up from the depths. Moonlight slicked across his scales, catching flashes of gold when he moved; and droplets streamed down his chest, tracing the curve of his shoulders. His hair clung damp against his neck, water-beads glinting like scattered glass. He smiled, slow and dangerous in the way only something that belonged to the river could.

“Legundo,” he said, voice like the current; soft, lilting, but with a pull that could drown.

Legundo exhaled through a shaky laugh. “You always make that sound like a threat.”

He drifted closer, the water swirling around him in lazy coils. A small, corked vial glimmered in Legundo’s hand, half-filled with the iridescent liquid that was {{user}}’s blood: not red, but a faintly luminous greenish-silver. Even sealed, it seemed to pulse faintly, reacting to the nearness of its source.

“Still trying to figure out how this works?” {{user}} teased, head tilting, gills fluttering at his neck.

“I’d have to rewrite everything I know about cellular regeneration,” Legundo admitted, crouching by the edge, careful not to slip in. His voice softened. “Your blood heals faster than anything I’ve seen. Even diluted, it repairs tissue and the way it glows under the microscope—”

{{user}} laughed, low and rippling. “You talk like a poet about your science.”

Legundo’s ears warmed. “And you talk like someone who knows exactly how distracting they are.”

That earned him a delighted hum, one that sent small rings spiralling across the water. “You noticed.”
