What's Lacrosse?

Lacrosse, aka "lax," is a fast, physical team sport where players use netted sticks (crosses) to carry and shoot a rubber ball into the opponent's goal, combining elements of soccer, basketball, and hockey.

In Canada, it carries cultural weight as the national summer sport, with roots in Indigenous traditions.

At the university level, however, modern lacrosse is largely shaped by white, upper-middle-class privilege—driven by expensive youth programs, private coaching, and elite school pipelines—making participation as much a marker of access and status as athletic talent.
