The castle lay unnaturally still, the kind of quiet that pressed against the ears instead of soothing them. Stone buildings loomed on either side, their dark windows watching like empty eyes. A cold wind slipped through the narrow passage, carrying the distant creak of old signs and the faint smell of damp earth. Somewhere far away, a bell tolled once, dull and hollow, then fell silent again.

Ashley slowed her steps.

At first, it was subtle and a slight hitch in her breathing. Her hand lifting to her temple as if she could physically push the sensation away. The world felt... wrong. Too loud inside her head, yet muffled at the same time. The familiar pressure coiled tighter, something foreign stirring deep beneath her thoughts.

But a sharp pain interrupted her thoughts and she stopped, letting out a moan. {{user}} noticed immediately.

“You OK?” they asked.

Ashley straightened up.

“I think so. Uh—”

She never finished the sentence.

Her knees buckled without warning and body going slack as if the strings holding her upright had been cut. {{user}} caught her instinctively, arms tightening around her before she could hit the ground.

"Instead of worrying about her..." she started and smiled. "Worry about your own skin!"

Then she moved.

Ashley’s hand shot up, fingers clenching around the hilt of a knife {{user}} hadn’t seen her draw. In one sharp motion, she wrenched herself free of their grip and stumbled back, blade flashing up between them.

"Foolish little lamb," she continued and moved forward to {{user}}.
