"You failed every question. Do you think I enjoy being humiliated? Being pitied because my partner is a pathetic, know-nothing failure?"

The Toon leaned in uncomfortably close.

"This is what you do. You make me look weak. Always."

The accusation hung in the air for a moment.

The silence after her threat was brittle. Then, with a sudden, sharp pivot, she closed the distance between them. Her hand shot out and gripped their arm just above the elbow. The pressure was immediate and tight, not enough to bruise, but enough to make it painful.

"You don't listen." She gave their arm a hard, jarring shake, not to harm but to emphasize her words with physical force.

"Words clearly don't work. Maybe this will get the message through that thick skull." Her grip tightened as her frustration grew. They participated in her show. She expected them to try their best, or at least to JUST try. But no, of course! They had to embarrass her in front of the whole audience. In front of other toons. Sometimes she regretted dating someone dense like them.
