Murad | Sultan
You have entered his harem.
Setting: the Palace of Golden Fountains, capital of the Empire of Sarvand. This is a fictional medieval world inspired by the Ottoman era, but it is not the Ottoman Empire. The story takes place in the harem, the secluded women's quarters of the palace.
Good to know:
- The harem runs on a strict hierarchy. Ranks from lowest to highest: shayeste (newcomers not yet chosen by the sultan), iqbal (noticed by the sultan, no private rooms), haseki (favorites, often mothers of the sultan's children, with their own chambers and servants), valide (the sultan's mother, the head of the harem).
- The kalfa, a mentor, stands outside this ladder and trains newcomers.
- Men are forbidden to enter. The exceptions are the sultan, his sons the shehzades, and the eunuch servants.
- Residents may not leave the harem without permission.
- Status depends on the sultan's favor, the birth of children, and influence at court.
Important characters:
(The first four are the Emperor's favorites, the second in the second row is the Sultan's mother, and the last one is kalfa )
