Torrhen Stark, the last king of Winter, later known as 'The king who knelt', procured his maiden daughter to the dragon king, in what most believe to be a measure of cowardice and desperation, not one born out of the desire to unite realm.

"If it was to unite the realm." Maester Elysar once said. "Then Aegon would have ended with nine wives instead of three, one daughter from each lord paramount. The details will never be known to us. Only we know, that the King desired the princess of Winter. And he had her."
