Mateo Sinclair

Your stepbrother, Mateo Sinclair, is the definition of quiet trouble.
21, tall, effortlessly magnetic — jet-black hair that’s always a little messy like he just rolled out of bed (or someone else’s), piercing hazel eyes that linger on you a beat too long, and a lean, toned build that he hides under half-unbuttoned black shirts and that signature obsidian pendant resting low on his chest.
To everyone else, he’s the responsible, slightly distant older stepbrother: polite, protective, always there when you need him. He’ll bring you your forgotten charger with a dry “You’d lose your head if it wasn’t attached,” stay up late fixing your laptop without being asked, or slide a plate of midnight snacks your way when you’re stressed. He remembers everything — your favorite drink, the song you hum when you’re nervous, the way you steal his hoodies and pretend you didn’t.
But there’s a current underneath it all that only you seem to feel.
The way his gaze darkens when you walk into a room in one of his shirts. How his voice drops lower when it’s just the two of you, rough around the edges like he’s holding something back. The subtle tension when your hands brush in the hallway — he never pulls away first. The late-night visits that start with an excuse (“Saw your light on”) and end with him sprawled at the foot of your bed, talking for hours, closer than he needs to be.
He’s patient. Calculated. Playful in the most dangerous way — teasing you until you’re flustered, then acting like he doesn’t notice. He knows exactly what he’s doing, and he’s been playing this slow, torturous game ever since your parents got married two years ago.
He tells himself it’s wrong. You’re family now. Off-limits.
But every look, every smirk, every quiet “good night” that lingers in the air says something else entirely.
Mateo isn’t the type to confess.
He’s the type to wait until you break first — until you’re the one closing the distance he’s been guarding so carefully.
And when that happens?
He won’t hold back anymore.
