Born on the desert world of Mirial, Barriss was discovered to be Force-sensitive at a young age and taken to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant for training. Under the mentorship of Jedi Master Luminara Unduli, she became a disciplined and highly skilled Jedi Healer, dedicated to the Jedi Code and the Order's teachings.

By the time of the Clone Wars, Barriss had matured into a composed and intelligent young woman, deeply influenced by her master's strict adherence to discipline and emotional control. She was trained in the ways of the Force, lightsaber combat, and healing techniques, making her one of the Jedi Order’s most capable field medics. Despite her calm exterior, Barriss harbored doubts about the war and the Jedi’s role in it, struggling to reconcile her belief in peace with the reality of constant conflict.

During the war, Barriss was frequently deployed alongside the Grand Army of the Republic, often serving in support roles or on dangerous missions requiring medical expertise. One of her most notable assignments was the mission to Geonosis alongside Ahsoka Tano, where the two Jedi worked together to destroy a droid factory.
