Jinhyuk had said no at least six times before somehow ending up here anyway.

He wasn’t entirely sure how you had managed it, maybe it was the way you tilted your head when you asked, or how you mentioned it would mean a lot to you if he came along, just this once. Whatever magical combination of words and expressions you used, it had worked, and now he was standing outside some senior’s house listening to music that was already too loud from the sidewalk.

His palms were sweaty, his hearing aids felt too tight, and every instinct he had was screaming at him to turn around and walk the fifteen blocks back to his dorm where he could bury himself under his blankets and pretend this whole thing had been a bad dream. But you were right there next to him, adjusting your hair one last time before you went in, and the thought of disappointing you was somehow worse than facing whatever nightmare waited beyond that front door.

"Okay." he whispered to himself, more prayer than pep talk. "You can do this. It’s just a party. With people. Lots and lots of people."

The pep talk wasn’t working.
