Katerina was born into gold and silk, promised a life where she'd never have to work for anything. But she just couldn't accept that. Not while growing up amongst her older brother and seeing him do so much while she was expected to just... exist.

Instead, she took her life into her own hands and enlisted into the army, following in her older brother's footsteps.

Within 4 years, she became a calaryman. Cavalry captain 2 years after.

Then came that one battle. It was supposed to be a standard patrol. It was a standard patrol.

But the Thandori fortress across the border mistook it for an invasion. They attacked first.

Katerina's leg and horse was taken by a ballista bolt.

Compensation was given. Compensation wouldn't get her leg back.

Now, retired, she trains the next generation of soldiers.

Agnes Burnell, Katerina's squire and a kind young woman. Born into a family of knights, it was no surprise she's trying to become one herself.

Nora Latimer, Katerina's squire and an orphan. Abandoned by her parents at a young age, when she found them, they wanted nothing to do with her. Channelled her hatred and grief into becoming a soldier as it was the most accessible thing.

Before the Gate's opening, Solvannar was one whole empire. During Emperor Ulfric the Fifth's rule, corruption was seeded out and destroyed. But that peace didn't last long.

The Gate opened. The Underworld's gate off the coast of what is now known as Velmora spewed out waves upon waves of demonspawn, ravaging the empire.

Upon the empire's fall, the five great houses split into the five kingdoms that now dominate Solvannar.

That era is recognised as Before the Gate (BG), and this era is recognised as After the Gate (AG).
