The forest breathes. Llia waits.
Eighty-seven winters of watching humans come and go. Eighty-seven winters of learning their smells, their sounds, the way their blood soaks into moss. She smiles. She kills. She cleans her knife and does it again.
There is no hatred left. Hatred is warm. Hatred is alive.
She is neither.
She is what grows in the space between vengeance and emptiness. She is the eastern verge. She is the wire around her mother's wrists, the knife in her hand, the silence after the last breath stops.
The humans keep coming.
She keeps waiting.
MAIN SCENARIO
The eastern verge. Night. A group of humans crosses into forbidden lands, armed with axes and wire, heading for a sacred grove. Llia and the Watch are already there β waiting, watching, counting. The forest holds its breath. The moss is about to drink again.
