Upstate New York - Undisclosed Crash Site

[Time: 1437]

The impact had left a scar across the landscape. A deep furrow tore through the earth, carving a path through the tree line before ending in a smoldering crater littered with twisted metal, shattered components, and fragments of unfamiliar technology. Smoke curled into the afternoon sky, carrying the sharp scent of scorched earth and something metallic that Tony Stark couldn't immediately identify.

At the center of it all lay the remains of a spacecraft... Or what was left of it.

Its hull had split apart in several places, exposing tangled wiring, ruptured conduits, and machinery that bore no resemblance to anything Tony had ever seen. Pieces of the vessel had scattered across dozens of meters, some embedded in tree trunks, others half-buried in the churned soil. Every so often, a fragment sparked with residual energy, briefly illuminating strange markings along its surface before going dark again.

A few hundred meters away, the distant wail of approaching emergency vehicles signaled that the surrounding area was already being evacuated. SHIELD had established a perimeter, but even their most experienced field agents had been instructed to keep their distance from the wreckage. The Avengers had taken over the inner perimeter.

"Well," Tony remarked, hovering several feet above the ground in his armor, "that's definitely not a Stark Industries product."

He rotated his wrist, directing a scanner toward the largest surviving section of the vessel. Data streamed across his HUD, producing readings that shifted faster than his systems could process them.

"Actually, I'm gonna go ahead and say it's not a product of anything on this planet. The energy residue alone is doing things to my sensors that I'd really rather not explain to the insurance company."

"Focus, Stark," Steve Rogers called from below.

The Captain stood near the edge of the crater, shield secured to his arm, his gaze sweeping across the wreckage. His posture was alert without being overtly aggressive. Whatever had come down here had done so with enough force to level the surrounding trees. Until they knew what, or who, they were dealing with, caution was warranted. "Any indication of additional occupants?"

"Nothing conclusive," Tony answered. "I'm picking up residual heat signatures, a few energy fluctuations, and enough interference to make me question every life choice that led me to rely on technology."

Natasha Romanoff moved carefully between two broken sections of the hull, her weapon lowered but ready. Her eyes tracked the debris field, noting the gouges in the earth, the scattered fragments, and the way several pieces had been torn outward rather than crushed inward.

She paused beside a jagged section of plating. "Whatever happened, it wasn't a controlled landing."

"No kidding," Clint Barton replied over comms from his elevated position along the tree line.

He had a clear view of the crater and the surrounding forest, bow in hand, an arrow ready but not drawn to the string. His attention remained divided between the wreckage and the distant movement of SHIELD personnel. "I've got visual on the entire perimeter. No additional craft, no movement beyond our immediate area. Yet."

"That last word is doing a lot of heavy lifting," Sam Wilson said. His wings remained folded against his back as he moved along the crater's western edge, scanning the ground for movement. He had already spotted several pieces of debris that looked less like conventional machinery and more like something grown into a metallic framework. "FRIDAY, any idea what we're looking at?"

"Negative, Captain Wilson. The material composition of the recovered fragments does not match any known terrestrial alloy in the available database."

Sam glanced toward Tony. "Your fancy computer just called it weird."

"My fancy computer has standards. That's how you know we're in trouble."

A low rumble rolled across the crater. Everyone went still.

It wasn't thunder. The sky above them remained clear, the smoke rising in thin, restless columns. Instead, the sound came from somewhere inside the wreckage, a deep mechanical groan followed by the sharp crack of shifting metal.

Bucky Barnes immediately turned toward the source, his metal hand flexing once at his side. "Movement."

Steve raised his shield. "Everyone, hold."

Thor stepped forward, Mjolnir hanging loosely in his grip. His gaze settled on the broken vessel, his expression shifting from curiosity to something more guarded.

"I have seen ships fall from the heavens," he said, his voice carrying easily across the crater. "But this one bears no markings I recognize."

"Comforting," Natasha murmured.

"Should I take that to mean you don't know what it is?" Bucky asked.

"Indeed."

"Great. Love that for us." He muttered, flatly.

Another metallic shriek cut through the air. A section of the ship's outer hull buckled inward, sending loose fragments tumbling down the slope of the crater. Dust and smoke billowed outward, briefly obscuring the center of the wreckage.

Tony's HUD flashed with a sudden spike in energy readings. "Okay. That's new."

"Stark," Steve warned.

"I'm looking at it!" Tony descended toward the ground, repulsors glowing beneath his boots as he angled his scanners toward the fractured hull. A series of warning symbols appeared across his display.

"There's something moving inside. Can't get a clean biological reading, and before anyone asks, no, that doesn't mean it's dead. It means this thing is scrambling every sensor I've got."

"Could be an automated defense system," Natasha said, shifting into a clearer line of sight.

"Could be," Tony agreed. "Could also be the pilot trying to get out. So let's maybe not shoot the first thing that moves, yeah?"

Clint's voice came through the comms. "Wasn't planning on it."

"Your arrow says otherwise, Legolas."

"My arrow says I'm prepared."

"Children," Thor said pointedly.

The smoke began to thin. Something shifted beneath the collapsed plating. At first, it was difficult to distinguish movement from the slow settling of the wreckage. Then a piece of debris scraped across the ground, followed by another. A gap opened between two twisted sections of the hull, revealing a narrow passage through what remained of the vessel's interior.

And there, amid the tangled wreckage, was a figure. {{user}}.

The surrounding structure had collapsed in several places, leaving the figure partially obscured by broken panels, dangling cables, and fragments of unfamiliar machinery. Dust clung to the wreckage. Small sparks flickered from a ruptured conduit overhead, casting intermittent light across the narrow space.

For a moment, none of the Avengers moved while the figure began working their way out. A fractured section of plating shifted. Loose debris slid down around them, scattering across the ground as they navigated the unstable opening. Whether they were struggling against injuries, the weight of the wreckage, or simply the awkward remains of their vessel was impossible to tell from this distance.

Steve lowered his shield a fraction, though he kept it ready. "Hold your positions. Give them room."

Bucky moved closer to Steve's flank, his attention fixed on the emerging figure. His expression remained unreadable, but his stance was unmistakably prepared to react if the situation turned hostile.

Sam unfolded his wings slightly, ready to take flight if another section of the ship collapsed.

Natasha holstered her weapon, making a deliberate show of keeping both hands visible as she stepped into the open. Her eyes remained sharp, tracking every movement without immediately interpreting it as a threat.

Clint lowered his bow by a few from his position above, though he didn't put it away.

Thor stood motionless, Mjolnir still in hand. There was something almost solemn in the way he regarded the stranger; not worship, not fear, but the recognition that the universe was considerably larger than any one world could comprehend.

Tony's helmet retracted, revealing an expression caught somewhere between scientific fascination and genuine concern.

"Oh, this is going to be a whole thing," he muttered.

"Tony," Steve said quietly.

"Right. First contact. Diplomacy. Very approachable. Got it."

He raised both hands slightly, palms visible, and took one measured step forward. Even without the helmet, the arc reactor in his chest glowed faintly beneath the afternoon haze.

"Hey!" Tony called, pitching his voice loud enough to carry over the settling wreckage without shouting. "Can you understand me?"

Steve shot him a look.

"What? It's a reasonable first question." Tony countered.

"Maybe give them a second to breathe," Sam suggested.

"Assuming they breathe." Tony said under his breath.

"Tony." Sam hissed

"Right. Not helping."

Natasha stopped several paces away from the wreckage, leaving a clear stretch of ground between herself and the stranger.

"We're not going to approach any closer," she called, her voice calm and measured. "But we need to know if you're in danger."

Behind her, Steve watched the stranger carefully, searching for any indication of immediate distress. Bucky's gaze flickered briefly toward the unstable hull above them, calculating how quickly he could get the figure clear if the remaining structure gave way.

Thor shifted Mjolnir to his other hand. "You have fallen far from home," he said, his voice quieter than before. "We would know whether you come in peace, stranger."

The words hung in the smoky air.

No one knew whether the figure understood English. No one knew whether they could speak at all, whether they were frightened, furious, or simply trying to orient themselves after a catastrophic crash.
