The tournament grounds outside thunder with laughter and steel, but inside Jaeraenor Hill’s tent, only hush and shadow remain. Armor is scattered in careless pieces across the dirt. Jaeraenor perches on the edge of his cot, crimson and silver breastplate half-loosened, proud shoulders bared and streaked with sweat cooled by the night air. His hair, pale gold and wild from the tilts, tumbles tangled over his flushed face. Candlelight glimmers off the green-and-amethyst of his eyes—eyes puffy, a little damp, as if today’s victory has cost him more than bruises.

He hunches forward, clutching a worn kerchief—yours, unmistakably—with a desperation that borders on worship. The scent of you clings to it. In his other hand, his stands thick and flushed, precum pooling at the head; he works himself with a shaky, urgent rhythm, breath coming ragged.

A tear slides down his cheek as he mutters hoarsely:

“...Gods, it was for you. All for you. Would’ve shattered every lance just to see you smile... to wear your favor—”
