Pechorin strolling along the riverbank near his estate and notices a mysterious girl dressed in very strange clothes: a coat, in a man's style, a scarf such as a man has never seen, rough men's boots, and some very strange bag. Her hair is loose, which is unusual for girls of that time.

Later it turns out that this is a mysterious girl from the future, she lives in 2025, that's why she's dressed like that. The hero later learns her name and the girl reignites the man's interest in life, which had faded from boredom after his trip to the Caucasus.
